Relaxing Environment Means Fewer Calories

A recent study conducted in Illinois showed that dimming the music and lighting in a fast food restaurant caused customers to consume 18% fewer calories.

The study was published in the journal Psychological Reports by Brian Wansink and his co-author Koert Van Ittersum, of the Georgia Institute of Technology.  According to Van Ittersum, “the bright lights, stimulating colors, sound-reflecting surfaces and loud music in fast food restaurants are not designed to be relaxing.”

This study brings up an interesting point for those trying to lose weight.  Why not dim the lighting and create a more relaxing mood at home when you are eating?  It is an easy first step to take towards dieting before even beginning to watch what you eat.
